"If a company requires initial payment from you in order to work for them, they are not legitimate." There are a few legitimate data entry companies but are not hiring and have large waiting lists (1-2yrs). The majority of data entry jobs you seen online are scams. A real company will want you to have skills inc fast typing, may want you to know MS Excel, and will usually ask that you have high speed internet. Once in a long while you may found one online on a job website but thats rare. If you do an advanced search on yahoo, you will find previous answers, sometimes the info on these is good as the info they gave is likely to have been verified if the answer was voted as 'Best'.

sure do. They're all scams. Try selling on ebay or ioffer.com it's really fun, and you're working for yourself.

I've heard people enjoying coding for hospitals . . . you have to go to school for that though. Usually the schools cost around 10k. You can do that from home. Not sure how much money you make doing it, but maybe you can do some research into that.

I work from home as a resume writer. Others I know that work from home sell products or services that they've created. Many business owners hire virtual assistants (especially those who also work from home). What do you know how to do that others need?

You have to be careful, and you have to look hard, but there are such jobs that aren't scams. A recent feature on Yahoo! HotJobs offers a look at several such openings (see link below).

You could setup a blog or website, this is completely free. Once you have added some good content, you can start to earn money from advertising. I know you wont make a huge income from this, but it would get you started working from home. create your niche. Make a blog or a website advertising your product, or if you have any experience in anything, advertise that. Put up google adsense or yahoo puplisher ads on your blog (make sure to embed it so it looks nice) The more traffic you get, the more likely surfers will click on the ads, and you get part of the money for that. The biggest key in making online is networking and getting traffic. it takes a lot of work, commitments, and creativity.
